Transcript titled, "More Than A Million Americans on the Western Front." On July 3, 1918, President Wilson stated that he received a letter from the Secretary of State at the war office. On July 1, 1918, Secretary of State Baker at the War Office wrote that more than a million American soldiers have embarked in harbors of the Untied States, in order to take part in the war in France. He lists the number of forces that have embarked to Europe by month, from May 1917 and until June 1918, which is a total of 1,019,115 men. At that point, 8,165 men had perished, only 291 of these at sea. On July 2, 1918, President Wilson answered this letter by stating that this record will awaken general contentment since the country now shares whole-heartedly in the war. This transcript was given out from the "Society of Friends of the German Democracy" in New York. |
