Description |
Cyanotype of the Cutler Barn in the late 1800s. The Cutler Farmhouse is located at 503 Concord Avenue, and the barn was located on the south side of Concord Avenue (at the site of present 502 Concord Avenue). In 1714, Daniel White first sold the land to Thomas Cutler, a member of Captain Parker's company. When Nathaniel Cutler inherited and added land to the farm in 1802, it began to prosper growing herbs. The farmhouse was built circa 1804. Nathaniel and his father owned four oxen that hauled carts full of newly cut logs for sale. Nathaniel's son, Thomas, planted what became known as Lexington's finest orchard on the south side of Hayden Woods. The Cutlers later specialized more in dairy. |
