Description |
American flag from 1863-1865 with 35 stars. Large, hand sewn, wool Civil War era flag. 35 double applique cotton stars. Stripes are 10.5" wide, with 4 red stripes and 3 white stripes. The canton measure 98 inches by 75 inches. Notice photo detail of edge where there is an attached channel for rope. No grommets. The 35-star flag was official from July 4, 1863 (following the admission of West Virginia on June 20, 1863) to July 3,1865 (following the admission of Nevada on October 31, 1864). This large flag is typical of flags manufactured for the nautical industry during this period. It bears a card label, somewhat damaged, identifying Daniel Palmer, Commission Merchant in Lumber on State Street in Boston. |
